राजनीतिक सिद्धान्त (Political Theory) Syllabus for B.A. Ist Year of Allahabad University

Unit -I Definition: Nature and Scope of Political Science. Political Science as the study of State and Government, as the study of power, as the study of Political System. Nomenclature: Political Science, Politics, Political Theory, Political Philosophy, Comparative Politics. Political Science: Its relations with other Social Sciences. Approaches: Different approaches to the study of Political Science, e.g. Historical, Philosophical, Behavioural, and Post-Behavioural.

Unit -II State :
1. Meaning and Elements, dominant perspectives Idealistic, Individualistic, liberal, social welfare, contemporary libertarians. Gandhian concept and Marxian view of the State.
2. Origin of the State-different theories, e. g., divine, evolutionary, force, social contract, etc.

Unit -III Sovereignty: Concept, Attributes, and different theories—Monistic, Pluralistic, and Philosophical. Challenges before the Nation-state, Globalisation, and emergence of Civil Society. Nation and Nationalism.

Unit -IV Concepts: Liberty, Equality, Rights, Law, Justice, and Punishment Citizenship.

Unit -V Evolutionary Socialism, Marxism, Fascism, and democracy Communitarianism.
